Walk a Mile in Her Shoes®
WALK A MILE IN HER SHOES®
Here come the men in heels! Their mission? To stomp out sexual violence by walking a mile in her shoes.
Every year in April, the YWCA Bradford’s Victims’ Resource Center raises awareness of sexual violence with the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event, a men’s march against rape, sexual assault, and gender violence. This year’s event scheduled for April 9th has been canceled due the pandemic.
Less than every two minutes, another American is sexually assaulted. As a community, we cannot stand by without taking action.
April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month and calls attention to the fact that sexual violence is widespread and impacts every person in this community. The goal is to raise public awareness about sexual violence and educate communities on how to prevent it.
Rape, sexual assault, and sexual harassment harm our community, and statistics show one in five women and one in 67 men will be raped at some point in their lives (Smith et al., 2017).
Child sexual abuse prevention must be a priority to confront the reality that one in six boys and one in four girls will experience sexual assault before age 18 (Dube et al., 2005).
On campus, one in five women and one in 16 men are sexually assaulted during their time in college (Krebs, Lindquist, Warner, Fisher, & Martin, 2007).
If you or someone you know has experienced sexual assault or domestic violence, the YWCA Bradford Victims’ Resource Center staff are available 7 days a week, through our 24-hour hotline @ 888-822-6325.
